March Madness

Who does not love the drama of the close of college basketball season with the Big Dance in March?

The underdog teams that battle the giants of the bigger schools, the brackets, the upsets, the drama, the excitement.   Winter here in Richmond this year has been a lot like March Madness.

The weather has been nothing short of crazy with multiple snow days and snow storms and then bouncing back to days in the sixties.  Expect the unexpected.  It seemed like everytime we recovered from one storm the next one was predicted around the corner.

I thrive on routine, I don't do well with chaos in my schedule so these snow days threw us for a loop multiple times.

Finding babysitters, switching work days, balancing coverage at home between Johnathan and I and not to mention the longer days of entertaining three children home from school, the ipad was the MVP player some days.

But, like any good team, we rallied, we pooled resources, we adjusted strategies and we fought the good fight and laughed in the face of the snow.

Snow Days vs. Dardens 0-7

Round 2- Plumbing Vs. Dardens.   Johnathan started out the month with a simple remodel to replace our 1970's vanity in the master bathroom.  As he removed it, a pipe snapped off from the wall to the sink plumbing.  This was a sunday before a major snowstorm coming the next day.  Thankfully he had the foresight to turn the water off to the house before so we weren't left with spewing water into the bathroom but we were left without water to the house.  Enter substitute player #1, the emergency plumber.  Turns out we have corroding pipes in both bathroom upstairs that we are now in the process of fixing and decided to add a second bathroom remodel to the mix.
Plumbing Vs. Dardens 3-0

Then came the next round, the stomach bug.  Slowly but surely it worked it's way through the team, knocking us down and left us reeling while trying to throw everything we had back at it, Lysol, Clorox,  sanitizer, isolation.  It was no use, It was stronger than us.
There were multiple overtimes late into the night changing sheets and PJ's.  We sat on the bench, trash can nearby watching as each player fell.  Eva was the only one unscathed.

Stomach virus vs Dardens, 4-1.

The tournament is coming to a close.  It's been a tough season, but I'm proud of our team.  We have stood strong, taped up our injuries, adjusted play stragety and cheered each other on.  I'm ready to cut down the nets and raise up my arms in Triumph as other exhausted Mom's rush the floor with me to celebrate the coming off season of Spring.  It's so close,  I can almost hear "We are the Champions" playing in my head.  Hold on the sun is peeking out from behind the winter haze and we can put this season behind us proud of how we prevailed.

Dardens vs. March Madness 1-0.
